The show’s star Mariska Hargitay, who has been the lead detective on “Law & Order” since 1999, will be returning for the upcoming season. Hargitay is the only remaining lead actress since the inception of the show.

According to Deadline, producer Dick Wolf was reluctant to sign on for another season due to pay cuts, however the deal was sealed with NBC earlier in May.

The 15th season of “Law & Order: SVU” had an average rating of 2.5 percent of adults between the ages of 18 and 49 of the overall 8.4 million viewers. There was also an increase of 19 percent in the number of adults between the ages of 18 and 49 who watched the show, and an overall increase in 1.2 million viewers more than last season.
