Laura Yost Dies: 15-Year-Old NC Student Confirmed Dead After Crash

Laura Yost, a 15-year-old North Carolina student who went to Panther Creek High School, has died, according to reports.

Yost was critically injured when she was heading to school last week.

She was in an SUV driven by Spencer Saunders, 16, who turned in front of a dump truck, leading to the crash, ABC-11 reported.

He issued a statement: “Not one minute has passed where I haven’t thought about you. Never could I ever imagine this happening. It was incredible watching you grow up since you were 8. We’ve grown so close to each other, we were family.”

He added: “I’m going to miss staying up late and watching Netflix with you, Pinehurst, practicing soccer with you, and just having you as my little sister. This truly breaks my heart. I’m so sorry this happened, please forgive me. It should be me up there.. not you. I am extremely lucky to have known such an amazing girl that never failed to make me smile. I love you so much, I hope there’s plenty of puppies in heaven to accompany you. Rest easy, Laura.”

The Wake County Public School System confirmed her death, according to WNCN.

“The family asks that the public please respect their privacy and that of friends during this difficult time,” the school system said in a statement.

A police report said that Saunders’ “failure to yield to [Middleton] was the sole contributing factor in this crash. Charges against [Saunders] are pending at this time.”
