Two of the biggest players in business software go toe-to-toe in the courtroom this week as Oracle Corp. CEO Larry Ellison is set to testify in a high-profile case in California between Oracle and Germany’s SAP AG, Europe’s biggest software company. Oracle is seeking damages up to $2.3 billion for illegal software downloads by TomorrowNow, a now-defunct company that once was affiliated with SAP. Oracle alleged that the SAP division downloaded code to Oracle software so SAP could sell services related to maintaining and supporting the programs. SAP has admitted to the claim, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, though monetary compensation is still to be determined.
