A large sinkhole measuring approximately 130 feet wide and 65 feet deep caved in overnight in the middle of a housing estate in Schmalkalden, central Germany.

There were no reported injuries with the hole swallowing a car as its only victim. For safety reasons, 25 residents from six nearby houses were evacuated.

The city’s mayor said the residents would be provided alternative accommodation until the situation is safe again, according to Channel 4 News.

It is unclear what caused the rock formations beneath the huge crater to break apart at around 3 a.m. local time when nearby residents reported hearing “unusual noises.”

Gravel will be used to fill the hole.
