Language Coach Appreciates Rich Variety of Shen Yun

WASHINGTON—Ms. Fran Ponick, a writer, speaker, language coach, and consultant, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts perform Thursday, Jan 31 at the Kennedy Center Opera House.

Ms. Ponick said she especially enjoyed the variety of the different dance pieces. “The colors of the costumes are beautiful,” she added.

New York-based Shen Yun tours the world with the mission of reviving the 5,000 years of divinely-inspired Chinese culture.

“A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending the sounds of both East and West, breathtaking backdrops, splendid costumes, singers—together creating an experience that’s leaving millions in awe.

She said she appreciated the breadth of the culture the performance exposed her to; a nice broad variety, including aspects of Chinese culture she was unfamiliar with. Shen Yun’s performances present tales from different dynasties and legends and bring to life the unique ethnic character of China’s different regions and minority groups, according to its website.

Shen Yun uses a digitally projected backdrop that employs state-of-the-art graphics technology, says the company’s website. The backdrop creates vivid scenes and animation that extend the storytelling beyond the confines of the stage.

Ms. Ponick said she loved the use of the backdrop, how digital characters seem to seamlessly transition onto the stage with the backdrop used in the performance. ” I think that’s especially innovative,” she said.
