Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong finished second at the eight-stage Tour de Suisse with a powerful performance in the final Individual Time Trial stage on Sunday.

Armstrong, riding for his newly-formed team Radio Shack, moved from seventh to second in the final stage after proving he is still among the best climbers in the world in the mountainous Stage Six.

The American rider joined the Tour de Suisse as preparation for the Tour de France, after being forced to drop out of the Tour of California with injuries.

After the race, Armstrong posted on Twitter, “Just finished Tour de Suisse. Moved up to 2nd on the GC, which I’m pleased with. Form is progressing, will be ready for the TdF [Tour de France].”

Time-trials specialist Tony Martin of HTC-Columbia won the stage; Armstrong finished 11th.

Fränk Schleck of Team Saxo Bank took the overall win, beating Armstrong’s time by 12 seconds over the eight stages. Schleck finished 13th in the final stage.
