Assailants tried to rob a KRON-4 television crew in San Francisco, prompting a guard to open fire on Friday night.

The shooting took place at La Salle Avenue in the Bay View, the SF Chronicle reported.

A KRON-TV van was also shot by the robbery suspects. The Chronicle reported that the guard fired back, apparently hitting one of the suspects.

Officials said an Audi drove to San Francisco General Hospital. One of the men inside had a gunshot wound.

A KRON employee told the paper that a police investigation was underway.

Reporter Sergio Quintana retweeted a photo of the van, adding: “This is the scene involving a KRON 4 Crew. Police say they were about to be robbed.”

A number of local reporters commented on the incident.

“It’s a damn shame how unsafe it is becoming for street reporters in this market. Just ridiculous,” wrote Chris Filippi of KCBS San Francisco.
