TORONTO—During the red carpet premiere for her new drama “Welcome to Me,” actress Kristen Wiig said that the film payed homage to the talk-show “Oprah.”

“Welcome to Me” tells the story of Alive Klieg, a middle aged woman with personality disorder and a few broken relationships. As a hobby she spends her time watching reruns of “Oprah” and reciting lines from the show. Unexpectedly, Klieg gains fortune and fame overnight and decides to blow it all on producing her own talk show which centers around her life.

“It’s sort of an homage to Oprah,” Wiig said during the red carpet for the film which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 5, 2014.

Although Wiig did say that she would never want to have her own talk show.

“I can’t even imagine that, I don’t think I would want that,” she said.

Although the movie has its comedic scenes, it’s mostly serious, and sad. Wiig said the script attracted her but the role of Klieg she had to adjust to.

“It’s weird because it’s not who I am as a person,” Wiig said, commenting on the scene where she had to bare it all while strutting through a casino. But after she saw the script, she was instantly convinced that she had to do the film.

“I’ve never read a script like this before, it’s very strange, and different,” Wiig said.
