Family matriarch Kris Jenner wants to change her last name from Jenner back to Kardashian—an act daughter Khloe Kardashian disagrees with.
In the opening clip of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” Khloé Kardashian and “momager,” Jenner are being chauffeured around Los Angeles when Jenner reveals she wants to change her name back to Kardashian.
“Why? It hasn’t been that in over 24 years,” Khloé asks her mother as she looks up from her phone.
Kris Jenner was married to Robert Kardashian for over 10 years before the couple divorced in 1991. She would later marry Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce) the same year and the pair divorced last year.
“I was that before you were that. I was the original Kardashian,” Kris shoots back.
“I don’t care if you were that. That’s bizarre. Why don’t you go back to your maiden name?” inquires Khloé. Kris’s maiden name is Houghton. “Keep Kris Jenner. Don’t you think that’s insulting to your two daughters?”
Kris Jenner shares two daughters with Caitlyn Jenner—Kendall and Kylie.
“If Bruce can change his name to Caitlyn, I think I’m good,” Kris responds.
Kris is singing a different tune in 2016 than she was two years ago. When the divorce to Bruce was finalized in December of 2014, the 60-year-old had no intentions of changing her name.
“I have two kids with the last name Jenner, so I think that would be weird,” she told E! News in 2014. “Like, ‘oh guys, I’m changing it back to Kardashian.’ I think I’m just gonna leave it alone for now and enjoy. I’m fine. I’m good.”
The entrepreneur’s intense love for her first husband was apparent in a cover story with Harper Bazaar. Kris gushed over her first marriage to Robert Kardashian, citing that their divorce was her only regret in life.
“I had a wonderful, beautiful life with Robert. He was just an amazing man,” she said. During Bruce Jenner’s transition to Caitlyn, the mogul wished she had his shoulder to lean on during those times.
“I always wish I could call Robert right now. That’s an everyday thing,” she stated.
But if there is someone who wants Kris to change her last name back to Kardashian, it’s her former mother-in-law, Esther Jenner.
“I hope she changes her name back to Kardashian I don’t want her to carry the name,” said Esther Jenner in an exclusive interview with U.K.’s Daily Mail following the finalization of their divorce.
