The New York Knicks (30–27) delivered a huge come-from-behind 91–86 victory against the Miami Heat (43–17) on Sunday night in Miami to make a strong statement about capability of the new Knicks lineup.

The atmosphere was electric from the start, as the Knicks came from behind in the final minutes after only leading briefly at the end of the first half where they rode a 16–0 run.

With a minute on the clock and the Knicks down by two points Chauncey Billups hit a deep 3-pointer from the right wing to give the Knicks an 85–84 lead.

Billups then stole the ball from Chris Bosh on the next play for what looked like it would be a fast-break layup. But Billups gave the ball up to Shawne Williams, who missed a layup but drew a foul and drained both to give the Knicks an 87–84 lead.

LeBron James would go to the line to pull the score back within one point and then threaten to take the lead on a driving layup on the next play, but Amar’e Stoudemire had a huge shot block against him and the Heat were forced to foul.

Williams again went to the line and again hit both shots to give the Knicks another three-point lead and seal the win. James couldn’t hit his 3-point attempt on the Heat’s final possession.

“We had to gather ourselves defensively,” Carmelo Anthony said to ESPN of the Knicks intensified play after a dominant first quarter by the Heat.

“Tonight we wanted to play a hard game, I’ve been saying that for the last couple of games. Everybody gave great effort, and as the result of that we won the game.”

Anthony led the Knicks with 29 points and Stoudemire and Billups both scored 16 points.

The Heat were led by James with 27 points and Bosh scored 20 while Wade scored 12.
