Kismayo: Gunfire Reported in Somali Port City; Al-Shabab Suspected

Heavy gunfire was reported in Kismayo, a Somalia port city, on Monday, according to reports. Some said that Al-Shabab might be carrying out an attack on Kenyan troops.

Local residents said that Al-Shabab was battling with Kenyan forces.

Harun Maruf of Voice of America reported that the gunfire was heard in the evening. 

Somali Media, via Twitter, said that the militant organization might be fighting with Kenyan troops.

The suspected Al-Shabab fighters were attacking Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) bases at the Kismayo airport, Al Jazeera reporter Margot Kiser said.
