The rumored Kingdom Hearts 3 release date appears to be an unfounded rumor spread by clickbait websites.

Cyberland reportedly said that the release date was confirmed at GamesCom to be in May 2015, a report picked up by a number of websites including the notorious KDramaStarz.com.

But no reliable websites such as IGN or other gaming sites have reported on the rumor, making it appear to be unfounded, at least for now.

The release date is believed to be sometime next year but Square Enix hasn’t pinned down a date or even a month as development continues on the game in addition to Kingdom Hearts 2.5.

Meanwhile, developer Tai Yasue recently discussed both 2.5 and 3 with Spanish website Meristation, noting that there won’t be European voiceover for 2.5

Yasau said that the “Frozen” world in Kingdom Hearts 3 would be like the snow mountain in the Land of the Dragons world for Mulan.

He also said that the musical elements in the “Frozen” world will be similar to those in Atlantica for “The Little Mermaid.”

Yasau also said that he would like to add characters and worlds from “Star Wars” in addition to Marvel and Pixar but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Yasue told Polygon earlier this year that Kingdom Hearts 2.5 will come out in early December for PlayStation 3.

Kingdom Hearts 2.5 will help refresh players on the complicated narrative in the series, he said.

“I think it’s really accessible for the younger generation, [but] story-wise, it’s a bit complex,” Yasue said. “By having 1.5 and 2.5, I think it will be easier to play Kingdom Hearts 3 and understand that story. We wanted the players to experience that in HD and relearn it and re-experience it.”

The original game was released nearly 12 years ago. To fully understand Kingdom Hearts 3, the many connections between the games so far need to be explored.

“As a developer myself, you start to forget what happened,” Yasue said. “There are so many [games]. In a way, it’s a learning experience for us too.”

Meanwhile, a look at Kingdom Hearts 3 may be coming at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, reported TwinFinite.

Hirokazu Kamamura, the director of Kadokawa Group Holdings and the president of Enterbrain, told attendees at a recent YouTube event that a major Japanese game company will make a big announcement at the show this year.

“Shinji Hashimoto has previously stated that Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III would be missing E3, but that more information would be revealed at other events this year,” it said. “It’s highly possible that we will finally learn new details about these two games [KH3 and FFXV] at Tokyo Game Show 2014.”
