Kingdom Hearts 3 isn’t on the list of games coming out in 2014 for Square Enix, but it could be out in 2015. It’s being developed for both Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda recently spoke with Japan’s Famitsu magazine, and confirmed that the company is working on the game.
“Domestic development will not be completely devoted to just smartphone devices,” said Matsuda, as translated by Siliconera. “For high-end devices such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, we will continue focusing on them with our “flagship” titles. We’ve already announced Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, which our domestic studios are working on, and our foreign studios are working on a sequel for Tomb Raider.”
“I believe that such story-driven single player games are written in Square Enix’s DNA,” Matsuda added. “On the other hand, for example, if we make a sandbox-style game, I believe we’d make it into something with an online feature.
“However, even if the game is one that focuses on its storytelling, it won’t simply just end with us selling the package and leaving it, as I’d like to continue challenging [the market] with a new business model. The business of simply selling a single item package, has become very rough, so I believe that more ingenuity and innovation is required, now more than ever.”
Fans on IGN’s forums have responded to a poll about the game’s release date, and predict that it will be out in 2015.
“I’ll say Sept. 4, 2015,” said “giveupthegoods.”
He was joined by 11 others voting for 2015.
Two hope that the game will be out in 2014, while another 3 predicted it won’t be out until 2016.
