Kingdom Hearts III for Playstation 4 and Xbox One is still in development and no release has been set.

Developer Tetsuya Nomura said that he is hard at work on the new game, which is being developed in concert with Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD remix.

Nomura told Famitsu magazine in a recent interview that he is focusing all of his time on developing the story for Kingdom Hearts III.

He added that the reaction to the latest footage of the game was good.

“It seems like everyone was happy, so I’m glad about that,” says Nomura. “However, while we know how far we’ve come from a development point of view, what we showed still has ‘ways to go.'”

Nomura was asked about the gameplay.

“The ‘Attraction Flow,’ allows you to choose moves according to different places and enemies, and especially so during boss fights where you’ll be able to pull off unique moves,” he said, according to a translation by Siliconera. “This is an evolution of Kingdom Hearts 3D’s Flowmotion, and will be one of Kingdom Hearts III’s main systems.”

The Keyblade transformation seen in the trailer was also addressed.

“In the trailer, we saw it transform into the shape of a gun, but there are also some other unbelievable transformations,” he said, adding that it is no longer just a weapon anymore. “According to suggestions from the planning side, it’ll likely be used as some sort of gimmick. The Keyblade has infinite possibilities.”

Nomura also recently discussed with Kotaku his thoughts on the Playstation 4.

“Looking at the PS4, I thought ’they’ve gone too far.‘ I wish they would just let us off the hook. For the player, having a game that’s ’thoroughly made’ makes them excited with anticipation, but for a developer, it’s a hurdle we have to overcome,” he said.

“The number of things we have to do keeps increasing and if we keep trying to expand as far as it will go, we'll never be finished. I think we’re going to end up being faced with the choice of what to keep and what to give up on [for Kingdom Hearts III].

I really felt the immense response to the Kingdom Hearts III announcement and so it’s now my task to figure out how to satisfy all those people who are looking forward to it. There have been a lot of different consoles in the past, but I feel that this one is the biggest mountain we’ve had to climb yet, in a good way.”

Lastly, one of the details about the game that Disney and Square Enix has revealed: It “features a mature Sora as the main protagonist who sets forth on an adventure with Mickey, Donald and Goofy through new and legendary Disney worlds. KINGDOM HEARTS III will make full use of next generation console technologies to showcase a stunning universe packed full of worlds based on Disney properties.”
