DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) has funded and created a scary-as-heck killer robot named WildCat that can chase you down at 16 mph (26 kph).

The WildCat is the successor to the Cheetah, which limited its rampaging to the treadmill. WildCat features a 2-stroke go-kart engine and hydraulic pumps powering four legs, with a fuel tank capable of being in constant motion for at least 5 minutes.

Boston Dynamics, funded by DARPA, are the guys behind the robots. Besides these two, they have developed BigDog, which is capable of movement through rough terrain, and Atlas, a humanoid robot.

Their main intended use is on battlefields for carrying supplies or simply blowing up strongholds.

The battle scenes shown in sci-fi movies are not far off—we’ll soon be having an army of explosive-ridden WildCats and BigDogs led by Atlas commandos charging toward enemy encampments. The future of mechanized warfare with robot armies is very scary and very close.

Meanwhile, sit back and enjoy the videos with the assurance that these guys are still on our side.
