Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder small forward and the NBA’s top scorer last season, got to shoot hoops with President Barack Obama several months ago in Washington DC, he told The Oklahoman.

Durant recently opened up to The Oklahoman about the secluded game with the President, who is a huge basketball fan. On his birthday in August, Obama played a game with LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Kobe Bryant.

“We just played pickup,” Durant told the paper about his encounter with Obama in September. “It wasn’t anything formal.”

Durant never told anyone about the game until he told The Oklahoman over the weekend.

Durant, 22, is originally from the Washington DC area and said the meeting with the president was special for him and his family who came along with him.

“It was a good feeling to meet the president,” Durant told The Oklahoman. “Of course I always wanted to do that. Me being from DC, it was pretty cool to see him. I was excited to get that opportunity. It’s something I’m always going to remember.”

His grandmother, who currently lives in DC, celebrated her 63rd birthday the day before she met Obama.

“Now we have the first African-American president, and that felt good for me to give her that opportunity,” he told the paper.

When Obama played with the aforementioned superstars on his birthday, Durant tweeted that there is “always next year.” He got to play with Obama a month later.
