AP: Storm damage assessed in eastern Colorado

DENVER (AP) — The National Weather Service says there is a chance of more powerful thunderstorms and high winds in the eastern plains after a storm damaged a barn and downed trees in Hugo in Lincoln County.

KMGH-TV reported (http://bit.ly/Ugucc6 ) a storm knocked down trees and ripped off the side of a hay barn in Elbert County.

Strong thunderstorms developed over the plains of eastern Colorado Thursday afternoon and evening. There were tornado warnings issued for Bent, Lincoln and Prowers counties, though no damage was immediate reported.

Hugo, about 100 miles southeast of Denver, was hit Wednesday night by strong winds that leveled a barn and downed trees and power lines. The weather service recorded a 110-mph gust there. No one was hurt in Hugo.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Capt. Clint Tweden said a semi-truck overturned in a likely weather-related accident, slightly injuring two people.
