A Kentucky man has opened a building up to people who were suffering in the elements during on the coldest winters on record across much of the United States.
“Your body says ‘no, no, no’--you’re so busy--but then your heart says ‘This needs to be done,’” Jerry Whitney told WBKO.
Whitney said he got the idea after witnessing homeless people struggling on New Year’s Eve.
The building in Scottsville sits behind Whitney’s house. On the weekends it serves as an auction house but the rest of the time it sits unused except for some storage.
Whitney told WKNY that he had a rough childhood, and remembers how excited he was to go to school just so he could have a decent meal.
For people who see the story and want to help, Whitney said that he’s accepting heaters.
