The Kensington Urban Education Academy in Philadelphia was placed on lockdown after a police officer at the school reported his gun went missing from a vehicle.

The school was placed on lockdown at around 10:30 a.m. as a precaution, Officer Christine O’Brien, a police spokeswoman, told the Philly Voice.

Police aren’t sure if the handgun went missing during school hours or at some point overnight between Monday and Tuesday, she said, adding “that’s why we put it on lockdown as a precaution.”

Police said the gun is the officer’s personal weapon, ABC6 reported.

The officer said he was unsure if the gun was taken from the car before or after he drove to school.

The school, located at 2051 E. Cumberland, serves grades 9 through 12 and there were 353 students during the 2015-2016 school year.
