Wrapping up her first week back on Live With Kelly and Michael, Kelly Ripa took the opportunity to bring up the fact that her co-host has been divorced.
On Friday, the show opened up with a discussion about “bird-nesting,” a practice where divorced parents alternate living in the same house to take care of their children.
Ripa started the conversation by saying “There’s a great article in the paper and I want to get your take on it because I don’t have a take on it. But I want yours. So you’ve gotten divorced...”
Strahan is twice divorced with four children, and appeared stunned by the question. Ripa has been married to her husband for over 20 years.
“Did we talk about me locking my bedroom doors yesterday?” Strahan answered. “If I’m sharing the house with my ex every once in a while, and she can still get in with a key, I’m definitely locking the door...I couldn’t do that, we might as well stay married.”
Strahan has split from his first wife Wanda Hutchins, and they have two adult children. His twin daughters with ex-wife Jean Muggli are 11 years old.
Ripa has been visibly upset at Strahan previously this week. On Thursday’s show, a hairy armadillo had apparently spat something in Ripa’s mouth, and she reacted by saying “I want to take him into contract negotiations with me!”
She was reportedly blindsided by Strahan leaving the show for Good Morning America without giving her a warning. There are still no definite reports on who will be replacing Strahan on the show.
