Colorado Rockies President Keli McGregor was found dead in a hotel room while on a business trip Tuesday at the age of 48.

McGregor was unconscious when officials arrived in his Salt Lake City hotel room. Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene after being unable to revive him.

Police reported to MLB.com that authorities arrived on the scene around 9 a.m. at the America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City. Rockies CEO Charlie Monfort and executive vice president Greg Feas were with McGregor on the trip and stated that there were no signs of suspicious activity.

“Words cannot describe the level of shock and disbelief that we all are feeling this morning at the loss of Keli. Our thoughts, our prayers are with Lori and the entire family as we all try to cope and understand how such a tragic loss could occur with such a wonderful man,” said Charlie Monfort in a statement to Major League Baseball.

McGregor started working with the Colorado Rockies in 1993 but was not appointed the team president until 2001. Many team members have been taken aback by his unexpected death that appears to be from natural causes.

“On behalf of Major League Baseball, I am very saddened by the sudden and unexpected passing of Keli McGregor. As president of the Colorado Rockies, Keli was one of our game’s rising young stars. He was a great athlete and equally great as a baseball administrator. Also, he was a great human being. All of baseball will miss him. I offer my condolences and deepest sympathies to his family, friends and the Rockies ballclub,” said the MLB commissioner in official statement.
