Parts of Kean University in Union, New Jersey, were placed on lockdown on Thursday morning after a gunman was reported on campus. The university sent out an alert to students and staff later saying that the lockdown was lifted and there was no gunman.
ABC-7 reported that three buildings were locked down at around 11:45 a.m.
The university later wrote on Twitter: “Kean Police lifted lockdown on all campus buildings. The individual was located by Township Police off campus and was NOT armed.”
The school’s police department added, “The individual described was located by Union Township Police off campus and was NOT carrying a firearm....”
The school’s Harwood Arena, Kean Hall, the Child Care Center, and the administration building were locked down in the incident.
