Four of the most well-known women that were allegedly part of “The Fappening” nude photos hack have had different responses, with Kate Upton and Jennifer Lawrence admitting the pictures are real but vowing to help authorities catch those responsible and Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande insisting that the ones purportedly of them are fake.
Lawrence, who does not use social media, has stayed silent while a representative issued a statement soon after the pictures started hitting the Internet on Sunday.
Upton’s representative followed soon after, with both women condemning the hack and saying they contacted law enforcement to try to catch those responsible. The FBI confirmed a day later that it was involved.
Justice quickly took to Twitter to deny that the photos were real although she followed up with an ambiguous statement that some have alleged is an admission that some of the pictures are real.
“Shortly after I tweeted about certain pics of me being fake, I was faced with a serious violation of privacy. There have always been fake photos of me on the internet, but I will not be put in the position to defend myself as to what is real or what is fake,” she said. “I am angry at this massive invasion of privacy, and like the other women who are in this situation alongside of me, I am taking legal action to protect my rights.”
Grande has insisted the whole time that the pictures that are allegedly of her are fake.
“To every1 going on about my ‘nudes’ & my ’m&g prices’ neither are real! my lil ass is a lot cuter than that lmao & tour details r comin soon,” she said.
“But forreal tho whoever thought those were actually me...... love u but I’m praying for u.”
Despite the insistence from Grande and the ambiguity from Justice, users on Reddit and other websites where the pictures have circulated continue debating whether the photos are real or not, with some trying to show evidence that they are real.
The users are also taking other pictures that are purportedly from the hack, and which are difficult to identify, and trying to identify them. For instance, there’s an ongoing debate about whether one picture is of Israeli model Bar Refaeli.
