Separatist leaders in Kashmir Sunday, rejected India’s conciliatory offer to release hundreds of detainees, and review it’s use of security forces in the region, according to AP.
The Indian government’s offer followed a visit by around 40 lawmakers to the region, and was an attempt to end months of deadly unrest in Kashmir, which is claimed by both India and Pakistan.
One separatist leader called the proposal a “time-gaining exercise,” and another said the proposal would not resolve the Kashmir dispute as not all the parties involved were consulted, according to the report.
India has also offered to give compensation of 500,000 rupees (US$10,800) to the families 107 people killed by police in protest violence since June 11.
