Karmel Allison was identified as the pregnant woman who nearly fainted behind President Barack Obama during a press conference on Monday about health exchange website glitches.
Allison told Business Insider by telephone that she was dehydrated while Obama was speaking.
“I was being caught by the President of the United States,” she told the website.
According to her Twitter account, she wrote: “I’m ok world- just got a little lightheaded. Thanks, @BarackObama for catching me!”
Allison said that she is a staunch supporter of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, because she has encountered difficulties finding health care.
“I had never actively looked for other coverage, because what I had was working, and the message I was getting from all the other insurance companies was, ‘Why would we cover a Type 1 diabetic? There’s no obligation for us to do that. And we’re not going to do that for anything remotely close to affordable,'” Allison told Business Insider.
When Obama caught her, he said, “I got you, you’re OK. This happens when I talk too long.”
The New York Post said she is a graduate student at the University of California in San Diego and works in a cell biology laboratory.
“I’m going on nearly two decades as a diabetic now, but Friday night was a first for me, and one of the worst blood sugar nights I have ever had,” she wrote in a blog post.
