Kanye West: I’m $53 Million in ‘Personal Debt’

On the eve of his SNL performance, Kanye West tweeted that he was “$53 million in personal debt.”

“Please pray we overcome,” Kanye continued. “This is my true heart.”

The revelation coincided with the release of his new album, the Life of Pablo. Fans were divided whether “Pablo” was an allusion to the artist Pablo Picasso or the drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, but Kanye said it was neither. “Pablo” turned out to be a reference to St. Paul the Apostle.

It’s unclear what the sources of his debt are, but fashion might be the main culprit. Kanye said last year that he had spent $16 million of his own money to jump-start his clothing line, reports the Vibe.
