A Kansas man was taken into custody by authorities after allegedly abusing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

Matthew Gallagher was arrested by Wichita police officers after doctors removed a two-inch octopus from the boy’s throat.

The boy’s 21-year-old mother had returned from work to find the toddler not breathing and her boyfriend giving the boy CPR, reported KAKE.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene and rushed the child to a local hospital where the doctor’s found the octopus, and injuries to his face.

Jail records showed the 36-year-old Gallagher was booked on suspicion of child abuse but was later released. Jail officials provided no official details.

KSN reported that Gallagher was not able to explain how the boy ended up with the creature lodged in his throat and that he is facing child abuse charges.

The boy is now in good condition following the bizarre incident.
