Kansas Lottery held its second annual Holiday Millionaire Raffle on Thursday, Dec. 30, creating one millionaire in northeast Kansas and hundreds more happy lottery winners.
The million-dollar winning number, 124909, was sold to a 61-year-old Topeka woman who has worked for the state government for 33 years.
“I told myself I was playing a game and to not be upset if I didn’t win,” she said in a Kansas Lottery press release. “I bought tickets in hopes of winning, but I really didn’t think I would.”
Although now a millionaire, the winner plans to continue working.
“After seeing I had the winning ticket, I called my husband,” said the winner. “I told him, he’d better sit down because I was the $1 million winner.” She said she loves her job and her coworkers, so she has no reason to leave. She plans to go out dancing, then save most of her winnings for retirement.
The winning ticket was bought from Dillons Gas Store 9037, located at 6829 SW 29th St. in Topeka.
The raffle also had five $50,000 winners and 500 $500 winners, according to the lottery’s website, which published all the winning numbers.
Holiday Millionaire Raffle is a raffle-style game with 150,000 $20 raffle tickets. With only 150,000 tickets, Holiday Millionaire Raffle is distinguished by having the best odds to win $1 million of any Kansas Lottery games.
Kansas Lottery planned to sell tickets from Oct. 1 to Dec. 29, but the tickets were sold out by Monday, Dec. 27, said Kansas Lottery officials, as quoted by Lottery Post.
