Justin Bieber on Tuesday night wrote that he’s “officially retiring” on Twitter.

“My beloved beliebers I’m officially retiring,” he wrote in full on Christmas Eve. About 20 minutes later, he wrote: “Lol,” before that message was apparently deleted. The “retiring” message was retweeted numerous times.

However, the 19-year-old Canadian singer offered little context.

“The media talks a lot about me.They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I’m never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle,” he wrote about a half hour later, adding: “Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other.” He didn’t clarify his “retiring” remarks.

About a week ago, Bieber told a Los Angeles radio station, Power 106, that he’s retiring.

“New album ... uh ... I’m actually retiring, man,” Bieber said at the time. “I’m retiring, yeah.” On Dec. 17, a source close to the singer told E! News that his statements about retiring are “not true.”

Power 106 then quoted Bieber as saying he “[wants] to grow as an artist and I’m taking a step out, I want my music to mature.”

On Twitter, chaos ensued over Bieber’s Christmas Eve message.

“JUSTIN BIEBER RUINED CHRISTMAS,” one person wrote.

Added another: “Please nooooooooo We love you, you are tour everything.”

“Justin bieber says he’s retiring but i have a feeling he’s gonna pull the same stunt he did when he came to tacoma,” wrote another.
