Justin Bieber was baptized in a New York City bathtub last month in an attempt to “wash away sins.” The news surfaced among the scandal of the pop-star posting videos where he makes racist remarks.

Pastor Carl Lentz, with the Hillson Church in NYC, who reportedly works with Bieber in the US told TMZ that the 22-year-old did a week of intense Bible study last month. As Bieber studied passages from the Bible and attended services, he struggled to find a church for the baptism.

“[He] couldn’t find a church where he could be baptized without being interrupted,” Hollyscoop reported. Bieber opted for a bathroom to keep the ritual private, according to Hollyscoop.

Bieber has not spoken about his ceremony, nor has he confirmed the baptism.

Even though the two videos of Bieber making controversial comments surfaced, many of his supporters spoke out positively about the star. Usher, Whoopi Goldberg, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Soulja Boy, and others denied that the “One Less Lonely Girl” music video parody was intentionally offensive.

News of Bieber looking for a space and a time to get baptized was first reported in February by the New York Post as the pop star searched for a pool for the ritual in the city.
