Joy Dianne Covey, the former CFO for Amazon, was killed in a bike collision in San Mateo County in California, it was reported. She was 50.

The San Jose Mercury News reported that she was killed on a rural stretch of road, Skyline Boulevard, on Wednesday when a van turned in front of her. She ran into it, resulting in injuries leading to her death, said officials.

“The vehicle turned left directly in front of the bicycle, which was traveling downhill,” California Highway Patrol officer Arturo Montiel told the paper.

She was on the board of trustees for the San Francisco-based National Resource Defense Council, they said.

“She encapsulated the heart and soul of NRDC and will be so deeply missed by all the NRDC family,” council president Frances Beinecke said in a statement obtained by NBC Bay Area.

“Her adventurous and indomitable spirit was infectious and she constantly challenged us to reach greater heights,” Beinecke said.
