NEW YORK—Lake Clifton’s Josh Selby (No. 4 Rivals, No. 5 ESPNU) by way of New York City has announced his decision for the University of Kansas during the Jordan Brand Classic on Saturday to the surprise of no one.
“I think that’s the best place for me to mature and get to the next level,” Selby said.
“[Coach Bill Self] kind of reminds me of myself. He’s very outgoing, a good coach and he’s going to get the job done.”
Kansas runs an NBA-type offense, which attracted Selby.
“They run an NBA-type offense with pick and roll and pick and pop,” Selby said.
“When I get to the next level I don’t want to be looking around [thinking] this [system] is different. I'll already know it.”
The 6-foot-3-inch, 183-pound point guard had been weighing his choices between Arizona, Connecticut, Kansas, and Kentucky. He verbally committed to Tennessee in 2008 but de-committed last July.
“Sherron did a lot there,” said Selby. “Going in there for them to put the ball in my hands is big.”
Selby is most athletic point guard in the class. He showcased his skills by winning the Powerade Jam Fest slam-dunk contest at the McDonald’s All-American game. His dynamic playmaking abilities are defined by his aggressive, attacking, score-first mentality.Selby is already looking to the pros as he indicated he only wants to play college ball for one year.
“God willing one year,” Selby said. “But I have to get where I need to be.”
Successful in either lead or off-guard positions, Selby will join three-star shooting guard Royce Woolridge as Kansas’s only commitments from the class of 2010 thus far.
The future backcourt duo of Selby and Tyshawn Taylor will hope to emulate the success that Collins and freshman Xavier Henry brought to the team this past year.
