Joseph M. Peters of Springfield, Missouri was one of four soldiers killed in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan on Oct. 6, the Department of Defense said.
All four died from injuries sustained from the bomb.
Peters was assigned to the 5th Military Police Battalion, Vicenza, Italy, said the department.
Peters graduated from Republic High School in 2007 and is survived by his wife and 20-month-old son, reported the News Leader.
Elected officials are working on Oct. 8 to provide a death benefit to the families of the soldiers who were killed, including Peters.
“Rep. Long reached out to leadership this morning and received assurances from House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers they are working on a rapid fix to address the issue of death benefits,” Keith Beardslee, spokesperson for Rep. Billy Long, R-Springfield, said.
The other soldiers who died were: 1st Lt. Jennifer M. Moreno, 25, of San Diego, Calif.; Sgt. Patrick C. Hawkins, 25, of Carlisle, Pa.; and Pfc. Cody J. Patterson, 24, of Philomath, Ore.
