Former New Jersey governor, U.S. Senator, and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Chairman Jon S. Corzine has been named as the new chief executive of securities firm MF Global Holdings Ltd., effective immediately.
Corzine was defeated in the New Jersey elections last fall by Republican challenger Chris Christy. Corzine will succeed Bernard Dan, current CEO of the company.
Analysts have cheered the move, sending MF Global stock up in Wednesday trading. Corzine is expected to use his 24-year experience and political clout to enhance growth at MF Global. MF Global spun off of U.K.-based Man Group in an initial public offering in 2007.
