Sir John Tavener, a renowned British composer, has died, according to reports on Tuesday. He was 69.

Sir John Tavener, a renowned British composer, has died, according to reports on Tuesday. He was 69.

The BBC confirmed that he died, saying that he suffered from poor health much of his life. He had a heart attack in 2007. 

It is unclear what the cause of death was, however.

He also suffered a stroke in 1979 and in 1990, he was diagnosed with Mafan Syndrome.

Tavener studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London but is best known for his works “The Whale,” and “The Protecting Veil.”

His last composition was “Love Duet form the Play Of Krishna,” which was completed in 2013.

His music, “Song For Athene,” was played at the funeral for Princess Diana in 1997.
