A source told baseball columnist Peter Gammons (who has worked for the Boston Globe) that John Henry, who owns the Boston Red Sox, has bought the Boston Globe.
The Globe itself reported that Henry had launched a solo bid after his sports investment group dropped out of the process more than a week ago.
The New York Times Co. is selling the Globe and its websites, BostonGlobe.com and Boston.com, as well as the rest of the New England Media Group.
The Boston Globe says that it has a daily circulation of 215,712 and a Sunday circulation of 362,849.
