John Goodman, known for his roles on the big screen, television, and Broadway, recently caught people’s attention on the red carpet due to his new slimmer figure. His publicist says it was done the old fashioned way.

USA Today spotted Goodman at the American Film Institute (AFI) awards show earlier in the week with a significant change in his body shape. One guest from the show guessed that he had lost close to 100 pounds, if not more.

Goodman’s publicist told USA Today that the long-time actor lost the weight through “diet and exercise.” The actor is set to play a new role on HBO in a series titled Treme. Goodman, 58, may possibly be in the best shape of his life.

Goodman has played a wide array of roles over the years but is known mostly for his long running role as Dan from the popular 1990’s family sitcom Roseanne. Before Roseanne, Goodman’s most successful role was 1984’s Revenge of the Nerds as a football coach.

Goodman has also been a frequent host on NBC’s Saturday Night Live as well as key figure in multiple Broadway and Off-Broadway performances. He is also known for his work in feature films; most notably with the Coen brothers, who created such Goodman hits as Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski.
