Former Congressman Joe DioGuardi, from Westchester, won the GOP primary to run against incumbent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

DioGuardi beat out economist David Malpass and Bruce Blakeman. He emphasized that more small business support is needed throughout the state.

“The federal government doesn't create the jobs. It's small business. And yet we bailed out the banks? And the banks don't want to lend to small business,” he said, according to NY1.

DioGuardi added that he is the candidate who can “shake it up” in Washington.
