Life imitates art.
Vice President Joe Biden has worked closely with actress Mariska Hargitay on causes related to domestic and sexual violence against women through her charity Joyful Heart Foundation.
Now Biden will hail Hargitay’s character, Lieutenant Olivia Benson, for the same efforts when he makes a cameo appearance on “Law & Order: SUV” this fall.
Biden will appear during a press conference scene where he’ll applaud the New York City Police Department’s Special Victims Division—spearheaded by Benson—for eliminating the rape kit backlog, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The NBC show confirmed the news via Twitter.

Hargitay railed against domestic and sexual violence against women during the United State of Women Summit at the White House in June.
As she thanked the Obama administration and Biden for its support, the 52-year-old actress called for justice for victims and jail time for perpetrators. Founded in 2004, the Joyful Heart Foundation’s main priority is to clear rape kit backlog—untested rape kits stored in facilities.
“Testing rape kits sends a crucial and fundamental message to victims of sexual violence: you matter, what happens to you matters, your cases matter,” Hargitay said.
She added, “Testing rape kits also sends a message to those who perpetrate the crimes—you will be held accountable for what you did.”
Hargitay also presented Biden with the Finnegan Award at her Joyful Heart Foundation gala earlier this year.
The Vice President isn’t the only one from the Obama administration to have participated in a police television series this year.
First Lady Michelle Obama made a guest appearance in a May episode of the CBS show “NCIS.“
Obama starred as herself thanking military families for their sacrifice, similar to her and Biden’s wife, Jill’s 2011 initiative, “Joining Forces.”
“Law & Order: SVU” will return Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
