The Democrat presidential challenger, during a news conference in Delaware on Thursday, said that he and vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris feel “very good about” their chances.
“We have no doubt that when the count is finished, Senator Harris and I will be declared the winners,” nominee Joe Biden said. “So, I ask everyone to stay calm, all people stay calm. The process is working. The count is being completed and we'll know very soon.”
The former vice president stressed that “each ballot must be counted,” adding that “democracy is sometimes messy. It sometimes requires a little patience as well.”
It comes as counting efforts in the battleground states of Arizona, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Nevada are ongoing. The states are all quite close.
Earlier in the day, Biden’s campaign told reporters that they feel that his victory is “imminent” and “our data shows Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States.”
No news organizations have called the race in favor of Biden in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, or North Carolina. Fox News and The Associated Press called the race for Arizona on Tuesday night, although some Republicans and pollsters called on the two organizations to rescind the call as ballots are counted.
President Trump’s campaign has filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, and Michigan to halt vote counting or to gain better access to the process.
Biden campaign lawyer Bob Bauer told reporters in the same call that their suits are “doomed to fail,” saying Trump’s campaign is allegedly trying to spread misinformation.
Trump’s campaign predicted victory as campaign manager Bill Stepien stated that “Donald Trump is alive and well” in the election. Meanwhile, Trump advisor Jason Miller said that the president could be declared the winner by Friday.
Trump also lashed out by saying in a campaign statement: “If you count the legal votes, I easily win the election! If you count the illegal and late votes, they can steal the election from us!” He also wrote “STOP THE COUNT” several times on Twitter.
The Trump campaign also said it would file a lawsuit in Nevada, alleging a series of voting irregularities in populous Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, involving people who left the state or who have died.
“My response is that we are not aware of any improper ballots that are being processed,” Joe Gloria, the Clark County registrar, told reporters following their decision.
Gloria also said Clark County would likely be finished with counting their ballots on Nov. 12, with the bulk being tallied on Saturday or Sunday.
