Jim Roberts is leaving Reuters after joining the company in February of this year.

Design director Daniele Codega is also leaving, according to a staff email on Wednesday.

The email also included the cancellation of the Next project, which had included the launch of a mobile app for iOS.

The project has been going on for more than two years and had “ambitious commercial and editorial goals and the team has worked incredibly hard,” but it continued to struggle to meet delivery deadlines and stay within budget, said Chief Executive Andrew Rashbass in the email, reported the New York Observer

The project also didn’t capitalize on the company’s strengths, said Rashbass, who added that the focus will be on enhancing and improving the existing Reuters.com websites.

Part of the Next team is being promoted into different positions, including Bill Riordan, who will be Publisher of Reuters.com.

But Roberts, executive editor of Reuters Digital, and Daniele Codega, design director, have chosen to leave the company, according to Rashbass. Both will be staying on to help with a transition period.

Roberts, who previoulsy took a buyout from the New York Times, said via Twitter: “Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I'll be leaving @Reuters, though not right away. & I’m not leaving news. Stay tuned.”
