“JetMan,” as he is called, flew across the Grand Canyon using a jetpack, completing the journey in eight minutes.

A video that was posted to YouTube, accompanied by a spacey ambient soundtrack, showed Swiss national Yves Rossy flying above the Grand Canyon.

The news of the flight broke on Tuesday after the video was posted. Rossy could be seen decked out in a sleek almost superhero-like suit with wings and of course, the jet-engine.

After he finished, he activated his parachute and descended to the ground.

However, as the Las Vegas Journal-Review noted, there were no media agencies or reporters at the event to verify the claim with their own eyes.

The newspaper said that Rossy was able to reach speeds of 190 miles per hour with the suit, which has a 6 1/2-foot wingspan.

The Swiss watch company and Rossy’s sponsor, Breitling, said that he had “his date with destiny” in flying across the canyon.

Rossy initially backed out of the flight on Friday, which was supposed to only be a training exercise, over the weekend due to wind concerns.

“Without training, I don’t want to take the risk,” Rossy said on Friday, according to the Journal. “I hope you understand I’m a human, a human flying.”

However, he said that due to the conditions, it would make it difficult for him to get another chance to fly, and so he crossed the Grand Canyon, according to the newspaper.

The Federal Aviation Administration apparently approved Rossy’s flight attempt an hour before he embarked on the adventure, reported The Associated Press.
