The announcement of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce has thrust Jennifer Aniston back into the spotlight.
Aniston has been trending on social media after it was revealed the couple were splitting, given the trio’s history. Aniston was married to Pitt before he left her and began dating Jolie, who he met on the set of their film, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”
The wave of memes about Aniston as a result of the news were “nonsense,” says Aniston’s new husband, Justin Theroux. Aniston hasn’t publicly commented on the split.
“There’s an endless appetite for trash, apparently, though everyone would say that they don’t have that appetite. But I think a lot of people do because people buy it,” said Theroux on Sept. 26 in an interview with Business Insider.
“But there are bigger things to [expletive] about. It’s shocking how much bandwidth things can take up when there are far more important things going on in the world.”
Theroux and Aniston were engaged in August 2012 after 18 months of dating. In August 2015, the couple married in a private ceremony at their Los Angeles residence. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Theroux shared what makes their marriage work.
“We appreciate each other’s sense of humor, we respect one another and we get along,” Theroux said of their key to a successful marriage. “I know it sounds simple but it’s true!”
While Jolie and Pitt are ending their marriage of two years, Theroux’s main concern—as are Pitt’s and Jolie’s—is the well-being of the the couple’s six children.
“As a child of divorce all I can say is that’s terrible news for those children and that’s all you can really say,” Theroux. “It’s boring to sort of comment on anything else. People are having a bad time, that’s horrible.”
Theroux is currently making the promo rounds for his new movie, “The Girl on the Train,” which is scheduled to open in theaters on Oct. 7.
