Authorities are searching for Jeffrey Scott Landers, a convicted murderer who escaped while being transported from one prison to another on Saturday night.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office says that it received an alert from prison officials just after 6 p.m.

Landers, 34, escaped in the area of Sultana Drive and Liberty Avenue in Livingston, California, the sheriff’s office said in a press release obtained by ABC.

He’s described as a white male adult, 5-8, brown hair, hazel eyes, medium built, eagle tattoo on chest.

“Landers is a convicted murderer, who has been sentenced. Landers is considered highly dangerous,” the office said.

“Law Enforcement Officials are asking anyone with information as to Landers whereabouts to dial 911. Do not try to contact or apprehend if located.”

It appears from an old CBS story that Landers was convicted of killing a 61-year-old man in Riverside back in 2011.

“For unknown reasons, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim, an adult male, one time,” Riverside police Sgt. Dan Russell said. “After the incident, the suspect fled but later returned to the scene and surrendered to officers.”
