Jay Leno and the Tonight Show ratings have been particularly low in the past several months. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the summer ratings for the late-night Tonight Show with Jay Leno have been the lowest on record.

Among the sought-after 18-49 year-old demographic, Leno pulled in less than when Conan O’Brien hosted the show in 2009. Leno is averaging 3.8 million million viewers and has a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic—a group advertisers particularly seek.

O’Brien’s viewership when he hosted the show was 12 percent less overall, but 23 percent greater in the 18-49 demographic.

However, Leno’s ratings are still higher than his primary late night competition The Late Show with David Letterman, with Leno besting Letterman by 22 percent in the ratings and overall viewership metrics.

In the summer of 2009, Letterman hit his all-time low for ratings.
