Jan-May 2010, Second Warmest on Record
The first 151 days of 2010 were the second warmest on record, according to a report released by the University of Alabama (UA).

The global composite temperature in May was 0.95 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20-year average. The Northern Hemisphere was 1.40 degrees Fahrenheit above the May average, and the Southern Hemisphere registered about 0.52 degrees Fahrenheit above the April average.

The only warmer year on record is 1998.

However, temperatures may decrease as the El Nino Pacific Ocean warming event lessens, and the temperature of the central Pacific Ocean decreases, according to Dr. John Christy, professor of atmospheric science at UA.
