James ‘Jimmy’ Johnson Killed: Bass Fisherman Dead After Being Shot

James ‘Jimmy’ Johnson, a professional fisherman, is dead after being shot in Jackson, Miss.

Johnson, 56, was in town to compete in the Bassmaster Central Open tournament.

He was fatally shot on Sunday night at a motel in Jackson, police told Bassmaster

Johnson, a Texas resident, was shot at the Motel 6 at 7145 Interstate Hwy. 55 North in Jackson. 

Police got a call at 7:48 p.m. and arrived to find Johnson dead.

The case is being investigated as a homicide; police are looking for a black male who was captured on security video from the motel.

Chris Bowes, senior tournament manager for the Bassmaster Opens, said Johnson will be missed.

“Jimmy was a terrific angler, as he has shown through the Bassmaster Opens,” said Bowes. “More than that, he was a tremendous guy. He will be deeply missed.”
