Canadian driver James Hinchcliffe has been signed to drive the Go Daddy-sponsored Andretti Autosports IndyCar, a seat formerly occupied by Danica Patrick and the late Dan Wheldon.

“It’s the perfect situation in every way,” Hinchcliffe told Speed.com. “I got the most competitive ride available with the best sponsor in the series.”

Hinchcliffe was IndyCar’s 2011 Rookie of the Year, with three top-five finishes—he has the on-track chops to do the job. But his personality played an important part in earning the Go Daddy sponsorship.

Hinchcliffe promotes himself and amuses his fans with his website Hinchtown, where the 26-year-old driver blogs and tweets to his fans. His humor earned him the attention his driving alone might not have.

“With the sport being so sponsor-driven these days, if you want to stand out as the spokesman for a company, you have to be so much more” than just drive well, he told USA Today.
