JaMarcus Russell’s No. 2 jersey is now going to be worn by Oakland Raiders backup quarterback Terrelle Pryor.
Pryor wore his new jersey in practice this week. He originally wore No. 6.
“I had to do a double take,” said quarterback Matt Flynn, who played at LSU along with Russell, according to NFL.com. “Not only was it a new number, the jersey looked a little big on him.”
Pryor also wore No. 2 when he played at Ohio State.
He sought to get the No. 2 jersey, but his former Raiders coach, Hue Jackson, didn’t think it was a good idea.
“Coach won’t let me wear No. 2. Why? I don’t know,” Pryor said. “You tell me.”
When Russell played for the Raiders, he posted abysmal numbers, leading Oakland to losing seasons. The former college standout is considered one of the biggest draft busts of all time.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the only other Raiders to have worn No. 2 were quarterback Aaron Brooks in 2006 and punter Leo Araguz..
Several weeks ago, Russell tried out for the Bears.
