Chokwe Lumumba, the mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, has died.
Lumumba came into office in 2013.
He was born in Detroit on August 2, 1947.
Lumumba was previously a famed attorney who practiced law in Mississippi and Michigan.
He represented a number of high profile clients, including the late Tupac Shakur.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart confirmed the death to WDAM, though details about the cause haven’t been made public.
